Animal Healthcare

Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, Mount Laurel NJ

Mount Laurel Animal Hospital which provides primary care, specialty care, and 24-hour emergency care, has grown to over 200 veterinary staff and rapidly needed more space. The practices philosophy is to provide top veterinary care while treating clients and employees like family. It also provides lectures, hosts events, and is a space for learning and community engagement.

The lobby is welcoming, with large windows that let in natural light which overlooks their farm and memorial pond. There is a separate waiting area for feline and exotic patients to make their experience stress-free. The lobby is also home to many reptiles, an aquarium, a turtle pond, a live green wall and lifelike 30ft rainforest tree. The finish materials specified were all extremely durable and anti-microbial since they need to perform under the toughest of conditions.

The second level of the hospital includes the auditorium, conference, and offices. auditorium and lounge open to an outdoor deck that overlooks the farmland.  A color palette of cool greys with red accents was selected to strengthen their brand. They have a monthly contest and the winner’s pet photo’s get hung right up on the wall! This enhances the sense of community that radiates throughout the hospital.

Bridgeport Veterinary Hospital & Pet Resort & Spa, Bridgeport PA

The Bridgeport Veterinary owner wanted to design a veterinary hospital that reflects his values, promises to minimize the stress of patients and owners and create a clean, orderly, and safe environment for clients, patients, and employees alike. The hospital is housed in a neoclassical building that was previously a bank. They faced their obstacles by turning them into strengths; for example, the existing thick-walled bank vaults make for an eye-catching surgery suite and a tranquil, quiet environment for cats! The main vault door is a work of art and the centerpiece for the treatment area. We wanted a hospital environment that was radiant and fun, so we went with a vibrant pink and turquoise color-scheme that matches their logo.

The original marble floors have been carefully restored to create a welcoming reception area which transitions into new color matched epoxy flooring. In the kennel downstairs, the epoxy floor is a vibrant turquoise. In the lobby we were able to keep the existing domed ceiling for extra architectural flair, adding a reclaimed wood accent wall added behind the reception desk. Color changing LED light strips were placed behind the translucent panels on the front of the reception desk and above the crown molding to create vibrant accent lighting.

NorthStar Vets, Maple Shade NJ

Working with Jeffrey Grogan Architects the design goal with the Northstar satellite hospital was to carry over the same principles from the main hospital designed several years ago and carry the brand over to the new smaller space. We achieved a very clean sophisticated look for the inside while maintaining the NS brand inclusive of the color scheme of the main hospital.  We created a comfortable friendly colorful environment.

Unlike human hospitals we had to take into consideration exuberant dogs jumping up on walls, furniture, as well as walking on flooring with their scratching nails while selecting finishes. These parameters narrow down our choices immensely when all products must be extremely durable, anti-microbial, sustainable, and easy to clean and meet all Class A building codes. Overall, the client areas are warm and cheery mixing wood tones with bright blues and apricot colors. Though back of house and procedure areas are bright clean whites, grey and blue.

For the lobby we designed a multi-color porcelain tile pattern. Floating above the desk are Simon Pearce clear glass accent lights which both illuminate the counter and allow one to see through to the logo behind the desk. The furniture backs showcase a William Wegman designed Crypton upholstery with a fun dog motif. Jeffrey Grogan Architects specially designed wood chair rail is both ascetically pleasing and provides wall protection from gurneys and visitors alike.

NorthStar Vets, Robbinsville NJ

The employee lunch room at NorthStar Robbinsville utilized 24/7 was ready for an upgrade. The existing kitchen consisted of one open room with a sea of tables and chairs. Dr. Stobie had a vision to create more of a relaxing lounge space for his employee’s. He wanted to carve out a space to just sit have coffee and easily connect your devices.  Robin visually separated the busy kitchen and dining area simply by installing a row of planters. The flooring was updated from vinyl to a rich warm wood look porcelain tile and area carpets were laid under the lounge seating to both absorb sound and create a cozy atmosphere. Due to heavy use the original plastic laminate counter tops were failing so we installed solid surfaces. We included lots of opportunities to ‘plug in’ and a counter seating for a quick bite. The adorable dog themed window valances add a little charm.

NorthStar Vets Doctor's Lounge, Robbinsville NJ

This second floor space overlooking the treatment area remained empty when the facility opened due to lack of parking spaces. Now that more parking was acquired we were able to convert the space into a lounge with touch down work stations for the Doctor's use. This has become a hub for quick informal meetings or social gatherings. The colors are bright and happy which helps to lighten your mood while taking a break or catching up on paperwork.

NorthStar Vets, Brick NJ

NorthStar Vets offers 24/7 veterinary care in their state-of-the-art satellite clinic in Brick NJ. Round- the -clock veterinary emergency care with specialists rotating through for appointments and rechecks in Ocean County. We continued with the brand and kept most finishes and colors from the main hospital with updates where new improved materials were available. One of the main interior design improvements was crafting the reception desk in thermoformed solid surfaces in lieu of plastic laminate as in the original facility. The reception took a beating with dog’s nails scratching and since the solid surface is color all the way through this problem is solved and scratches can easily be sanded out. We also decided to use vinyl upholstery for all the seating and backs for durability and cleanliness and we found a bright multi -color one for the lobby. Overall, the hospital is bright, happy, and colorful which helps pet parents during the stressful emergency visit.

Montgomery Animal Hospital, Flourtown PA

Montgomery Animal Hospital has been in business for more than 50 years. Dr. Schrader purchased the practice in 1979 when he moved to Pennsylvania.

They pride themselves on being a friendly practice that provides superior medical care and exceptional customer service. Dr. Schrader although still actively working recently passed the baton to his daughter Dr. Rebecca Padro who initiated the renovation. I love the family feel as Rebecca’s sister Carolyn Schrader is also involved in the practice as a manager. They all bring their own dog with them to work everyday happily curled up in the office.

It was a challenge to complete the renovation in stages all why they maintained full business hours. The employee’s and customers alike put up with noise and parking restrictions, but it was all worth it! During my initial design meeting with Dr. Padro she said her favorite color was purple and do I think we can incorporate that somewhere. YES!

Vantage Veterinary Surgery, Bergen County NJ

Vantage Veterinary Surgery sole focus is on surgery. They combine the most advanced surgical techniques and technology to minimize the impact of surgery on both the pet and owner. Dr. Thomas Monaco and Francesca Monaco wanted to incorporate the colors navy and white from their logo into the interior design as well as adding wood tones and golds for warmth in the client areas. It was a very fast paced project and not all the specified original materials were available in time as we are still experiencing product delays from COVID, even with value engineering and product substitutions, the end result turned out well.

County Line Veterinary Hospital, Hatboro PA

An existing 1200 sf Veterinary Hospital sat near the road on a large property located in Hatboro, PA since 1956, in 2006 the current owner took over the practice. They more than outgrew the space and decided to build a new state of the art 6000 sf facility behind the existing one so that the practice could remain open during construction. Once the new facility was up and running the existing would be demolished.

The doctors and staff understand that the bond between an owner and their pet is a strong and cherished connection. We have achieved this as soon as you walk in with separate waiting areas for cats and dogs to reduce any stress before they are assigned an exam room. The client areas have durable porcelain tile floors that add warmth with a rich faux wood look and wall protection in a happy teal color with oversized printed graphics on type II vinyl wallcovering designate the cat and dog sides of the waiting room.
